Necessary life skills for those convicted for drugs

To equip the prison inmates convicted for drugs related offence with necessary life skills, a workshop is underway in capital. The two day workshop is the first of its kind to be initiated.

Thirty prisoners who were convicted for the drugs related offence attended the workshop. The inmates who are between the age group of 18 till 30 are suffering from addiction. They are serving the prison term ranging from six months till one year for the repeated drugs related crimes.

The Superintended of Drugs and Vice Division, Tshering Dorji, said the workshop is initiated to encourage the inmates to enable them towards a recovery from the drug use and related crimes, once they leave the prison.

During the two days workshop the inmates will be briefed on the on the life skills for the prevention of drugs use and relapse post prison life.

The officiating chief program officer of the Bhutan Narcotics Control Agency, Sonam Jamtsho, said most of the drug users lack life skills, which leads them to commit crimes.He added that this workshop will equip inmates with life skills like encouraging their self esteem, decision making, and communication among others.

 The workshop is organised by the Bhutan Narcotic Control Agency in collaborating with the Royal Bhutan Police.
