After the inauguration of the Gyalsey Dumra, a recreational park earlier this month, the otherwise dull Zhemgang town is brimming with life. The Gyalsey Dumra located in the centre of the town has flowers, plants and other amenities spread over an acre of land. The Zhemgang district has been doing beautification works since 2020. The park has now become a place of recreation for Zhemgang residents.

The Gyalsey Dumra is the talk of Zhemgang town. Residents are visiting the place following the inauguration on the 2nd of June.

People say, the park has improved the town’s aesthetics and has many green spaces to sit around or take a stroll.

“Everyone can come here. Even those who are not happy. Families can meet here for picnics and other leisurely activities. The Gyalsey Dumra has beautiful flowers and better places to sit. We can come here with tea and snacks and enjoy ourselves. It feels like heaven,” said Lhendup, a resident.

“Inside the Dumra, there are varieties of flowers. There is even a manidungkor. Young people can come here during their free time. Students who research flowers can come here for their assignments and project work,” said Pema Yuden, another resident.

The park is also installed with street lights so that people can visit during the evening hours. Residents say with the streetlights, the park is a safe place to hang out.

The Gyalsey Dumra has a concrete footpath, canopies, resting benches, and a restroom among others. It was built at a cost of about Nu 3 M. According to district officials, the park is a tribute to His Royal Highness Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck.
