To commemorate Her Majesty the Queen Mother Sangay Choden Wangchuck’s 60th Birth Anniversary, a first-ever musical theatre performance on ‘Grease’ in the country was hosted at the Royal Textile Academy in Thimphu yesterday. Grease is a timeless classic musical that has captured the hearts of audiences around the world.

While commemorating Her Majesty’s birthday anniversary, the main objective of the event was also to help develop an appreciation for theatre and the performing arts in the country.

“It is also conducted with the intent to actually promote the creative industry in the country. And to actually provide platforms for the youths to showcase their talents,” said Ugyen Tenzin, Director of Royal Textile Academy.

He also said it is also to discover, nurture and provide a platform for local singers, dancers, actors and musicians.

The performance is also an effort to change public perception of the performing arts.

It sends out the message that it can not only create jobs but also encourage creativity and innovation in attaining inclusive, equitable and sustainable growth and development.
