Despite numerous challenges faced during the pandemic, the construction of the mega dry port at Pasakha in Phuentshogling is on track. As of now, almost 45 per cent of the work is complete. Officials are hopeful that the dry port will be fully functional in the next two years.

The mega dry port at Pasakha is being constructed on an area of more than 15 acres near the Pasakha Industrial Estate. The construction began in October 2020. The project is divided into four phases.

The first two phases are completed, which include the construction of boundary walls and an approach road linking the highway and the project site.

Works on the third phase, which involves refilling the project area are underway.

“In phase four, there will be construction of all the infrastructure like warehouses and administration buildings. After the pandemic, all the project works are going smoothly. Looking at the current progress, we can complete the project on time,” said Ugyen Wangchuk, the project manager of the department of trade.

The project manager said that they are targeting to complete 50 per cent of the entire project by next month.

The mega dry port is expected to address many issues like processing of import and export, transhipment of cargo, and improving logistical facilities.

The project is expected to be complete by the mid of 2026. It is being constructed at a cost of Nu 1.2bn.
