The Punakha District Court sentenced a 40-year-old man from Dagana to more than one year in prison for endangerment of a child in accordance with section 223 of the Penal Code of Bhutan. The court passed the judgement on Thursday. However, the man can pay Thrimthue in lieu of imprisonment.

According to the judgement, the convict had thrown his two-year-old niece from the window of their three-storeyed residence in Punakha in February this year. The child survived with a fractured thigh. The mother of the victim did not claim any compensation from the convict who is her elder brother, saying the incident occurred when he was in a state of mental instability.
