The country is all set to go to the polls tomorrow for the fourth National Council Elections. The Election Commission has deployed over 6,000 officials in polling stations across the country. 89 candidates are going to contest for the 20 seats in the National Council.

811 polling stations have been set up across the country.

According to the Election Commission, there are 485,811 total registered voters in the 20 districts. Of these, 249,071 are females and 236,740 males as of 1st January 2023.

Of them, 105,704 have registered as postal voters. Gasa has the lowest number of voters with 2,279 while Trashigang tops the list with 52,177 registered voters.

The ECB said all preparations are in place for the poll day.

“We have 811 polling stations, and we have 20 districts’ election coordinators and 20 deputy chief election coordinators at the Drungkhag level. In 205 gewogs, we have gewog election coordinators. So, as of now, everything is under control and we are fully prepared,” said Phub Dorji, the Director of Secretariat of ECB.

The voters are required to carry their Citizenship Identity Cards to the polling stations. The ECB has discontinued issuing voter cards from this election.

Shops, businesses, offices and institutions will remain closed on the poll day tomorrow.
