Bhutan Postal Corporation Limited turns 50 this month. Her Royal Highness, Ashi Deki Yangzom Wangchuck, graced the golden jubilee celebration.

The golden jubilee stamps, Royal wedding stamps and meghdoot millennium automation were also launched during the celebration. Meghdoot is the counter “point of sale” automation application where all counter transactions in the postal outlets are digitised.

The staff of the corporation collected about 450 books from the general public which would be distributed in remote schools in the country. The members of the Royal family and other senior government officials joined in the celebration.

The corporation has come a long way. Initially when it began, it took not less than 14 days for a letter from Delhi in India to reach Paro and about two months from Trashigang to Thimphu. But today, sending messages is just a click away.

The Deputy Managing Director of Bhutan Postal Corporation, Phintsho Dorji, said they have many works in the pipeline. “We have already established 100 community centers where people can avail services easily. Slowly, we will have community centers in all 205 Gewogs providing the services of Bhutan post”

Today, Bhutan Postal Corporation has over 300 staff.
