The Bhutan Post Corporation (BPC) held a press conference to set the record straight that the 15 Chinese made buses were brought to Thimphu only after they met the International Safety Standards.

The local media had questioned the safety standard of the buses after the buses were brought to Thimphu on Wednesday. That is because two years ago, a Chinese made bus had a major accident at the Hongkong market road in Thimphu town.

The bus dealers, Global motors and Gangjung also assured the reporters that the buses meet the International and Safety standards of the vehicle.

The General Manager of Global Motors, Pema Wangchuk, said the buses were purchased from one the reputed vehicle companies called Golden Dragon in China. He said they set inquiry about the safety standard with other countries using the buses made by the same company. “They have no complaints over safety or any other issues of the bus.”

He said company has also been awarded many certificates applauding them for producing good quality buses.  “The company also said it can give in writing that the guarantee and the safety of the bus are good,” said Pema Wangchuk.

The bus dealers had gone to China before the purchase to see the condition of the buses.  They said they found out that the buses have some advanced features which will not allow brake failures.
