Wangdue Phodrang fields five candidates for the NC Elections

The people of Wangdue Phodrang have nominated five candidates for the National Council Elections. The Dhamngoi Zomdu ended on Wednesday. Only five Gewogs, out of fifteen Gewogs in the district had aspiring candidates during the Dhamngoi Zomdu.

From Bjena Gewog, the lone aspiring candidate, Nim Gyeltshen, secured 339 yes and 17 no votes. The 37-year-old is from Lhamikhar village.

In Daga Gewog, two aspiring candidates sat for the Dhamngoi Zomdu. 48-year-old Ugyen from Uma Khatoed is the nominee after securing 374 votes while his opponent, Dhendup Tshering from Tsara secured 234 votes.

Similarly, 40-year-old Phub Dorji is the lone aspiring candidate from Mang village in Gangtey Gewog. He secured 341 yes and 56 no votes.

From Kazhi Gewog, 53-year-old Karma Dorji from Lengbi village is the nominee after securing 257 yes and 30 no votes.

There were three aspiring candidates in Ruebisa Gewog. After securing 454 votes, 40-year-old Kuenley Tshering from Jala village is the nominee.

His opponents, Jamyang Tashi from Nyalakha and Chimi Tenzin from Zamding secured 316 and 194 votes respectively.

Meanwhile, Athang, Dangchhu, Gase Tshogom, Gase Tshowom, Nyisho, Nahi, Phangyuel, Sephu, Phobji, and Thedtsho Gewogs, and Bajo Throm did not have any aspiring candidates.

Nearly 4,000 voters showed up for the Dhamngoi Zomdu in Wangdue Phodrang.
