Monggar fields seven candidates for the NC Elections

Monggar will have seven aspiring candidates to contest the National Council Elections. They were nominated out of nine aspiring candidates from the seven gewogs who declared their interests during the Dhamngoi Zomdu. More than 3000 voters from the seven gewogs turned up for the Dhamngoi Zomdu which ended on Wednesday.

Chaskhar Gewog nominated 35-year-old Tshering Dorji from Chaskhar village. As the gewog’s lone aspiring candidate, he secured 391 yes votes and 94 no votes.

In Gongdu Gewog, 315 voters turned up for the Damngoi Zomdu. The gewog selected Dorji Wangmo from Bagla village. The 46-year-old secured 287 yes votes and 28 no votes.

Kengkhar Gewog nominated 55-year-old Chhimi Dorji from Nanari village. The lone contestant from the gewog, he secured 150 yes votes and 29 no votes.

42-year-old Tshering Wangchen from Khalong village is Narang Gewog’s only aspiring candidate. He secured 337 yes votes and 38 no votes.

Meanwhile, Ngatshang Gewog chose Tashi Penjor from Yakhar village. The 36-year-old secured 475 yes votes and 56 no votes.

Shermung Gewog had two aspiring candidates. And the gewog nominated Jigme Tenzin from Muhung village who secured 344 votes. His opponent Chimmi Dorji from the same village managed to secure 195 votes.

Tsamang Gewog also had two aspiring candidates. The gewog nominated the incumbent National Council member, Sonam Pelzom, from Drangmaling village. The 35-year-old secured 411 votes and her contender Tshering Dorji from Banjar village managed 284 votes.

Meanwhile, the 10 gewogs of Balam, Chhali, Dramedtse, Drepong, Saling, Jurme, Monggar, Silambi, Thangrong, and Tsakaling, and  Monggar Throm did not have any aspiring candidates during Damngoi Zomdu.

And little less than 5000 people attended the Dhamngoi Zomdu in Monggar district.
