Two aspiring candidates will contest for Thimphu’s National Council seat. Only Ge-nyen and Chang Gewogs out of the district’s nine gewogs had nominees during the Dhamngoi Zomdu which ended on Tuesday.

The poll day for the National Council elections is scheduled for the 20th of April. Two aspiring candidates sat for the nomination round in Chang Gewog.

Securing 164 votes, 38-year-old Nima Gyeltshen from Ramtokto is the nominee. His opponent Dorji Tshering secured 151 votes.

45-year-old Leki Tshering from Tshochokha is the National Council nominee for Ge-nyen Gewog. Being the only aspirant, he secured 182 Yes votes and 14 No votes.

Kawang, Maedwang, Dakarla, Thim-Throm, Naro, Soe, and Lingzhi saw no aspiring candidates.

However, around 260 people attended the Dhamngoi Zomdu in these gewogs. The two gewogs with the aspiring candidates saw over 500 voters.
