The Punakha police have arrested a 20-year-old man for allegedly killing his 22-year-old friend. The suspect was arrested from Punakha on September 30.
Police said both the victim and the suspect were drunk on the night of the incident. The incident took place on the night of September 27 at Jimthang village opposite Khuruthang town.
In his statement to the police, the suspect said a brawl has broken out between them when the deceased had refused to accompany the suspect to water his paddy fields. He said in the heat of argument, he had taken out a knife with an intention to stab the victim on his thigh. But, he said, he accidentally stabbed the victim on his neck.
The statement says the suspect had then dragged the body and had thrown it into Punatshangchu.
Both the suspect and the victim are farmers from Jimthang village in Punakha.
The police and the relatives had been searching the body since last week.
