To provide easy access for people wishing to enrol their children as monks in a Buddhist School, a new monastic school has been opened in Sarpang. The Tshog-ki Lopon of the Zhung Dratshang inaugurated the school coinciding with the traditional day of offering on 22nd January.
The Lho Druk Choeling Monastic School has 20 monks and two teachers. The school was started in 2020. It is now registered under the Zhung Dratshang.
“Being registered as a monastic school under the Zhung Dratshang will enable us to spread and flourish Buddhism and the teachings in the Drukpa Kagyu,” said Khenpo Choki Dorji.
For residents, a monastic school in the community will make it easier for them to find monks for rituals which otherwise is difficult.
“Having a monastic school will bring people together during religious ceremonies enabling people from distant places to come here,” said Leki Gyeltshen, a resident.
“Children from humble families are admitted to this monastic school. The school will provide everything. I feel it’s a good support,” said Ugyen Chenzom.
The school was constructed with financial support from local and international donors.
