Dorji Lopon appoints three new Lams and new Secretary of Zhung Dratshang

The Dorji Lopon of Zhung Dratshang has appointed three new Lams of different Lhakhangs and the Zhung Drashang’new Secretary. The new appointees were conferred Khadhar by the Dorji Lopon at the Punakha Dzong today.

35-year-old Kencho Dorji from Toedwang Gewog in Punakha is the new Lam of the Gedu Lhakhang in Chukha. Prior to his present post, he served as a teacher at the Khuruthang Monastic School in Punakha. He began his journey as a monk at the age of eight. He studied at the Tango Buddhist University in Thimphu and also at the Buddhist University in Varanasi, India.

39-year-old Tawchung from Kazhi Gewog in Wangdue Phodrang has been appointed as the new Lam of the Shemakha Sonam-Tse Lhakhang in Chapcha, Chhukha. Prior to his appointment, he was a teacher at the Talakha Monastic School. He started his monkhood at the age of ten. He studied at various Shedras including the Sewla Shedra in Punakha, Sangchen Choekor in Paro and Tango University in Thimphu.

28-year-old Chador from Athang Gewog in Wangdue Phodrang is the new Lam of the Lungkha Tongtshang Lhakhang in Shengana, Punakha. He was previously a teacher at the Sewgang Buddhist School in Nysho, Wangdue Phodrang. He became a monk at the age of ten and is a graduate of the Sang Chhoekhor Shedra in Paro.

And 48-year-old Sangay Chhophel from Samar Gewog in Haa has been appointed as the new Secretary of the Central Monastic Body. Prior to his current appointment, he served as the assistant secretary of the Central Monastic Body. He studied at the Tango Shedra in Thimphu and also worked as a teacher at the Dechen Phodrang Central Monastic School in Thimphu.
