The Authentic Crafts Festival began today at the authentic craft bazaar in the capital. The festival is being held for the first time to promote authentic products which are made in Bhutan. The products include textiles, thangkas and wood carved and bamboo products.
In the recent years, lots of Bhutanese artisans and craftsmen have been facing a stiff competition from the cheaply mass produced imported products. The festival is expected to help promote genuine Bhutanese handicrafts.
There are some 130 stalls at the Authentic Crafts bazaar that display authentic products.
The five day long festival is being organised by the Handicraft Association of Bhutan and Agency for Promotion for Asia’s indigenous craft.
