PDP declares new candidates

People’s Democratic Party has declared nine more candidates for the upcoming parliamentary election. Of the nine candidates, only one candidate representing the Radhi-Sakteng constituency in Trashigang is new. The rests are the former candidates who contested in the 2018 election.

Rinzin Dorji will represent the party from the Phuentshogling constituency in Chhukha. 46-year-old Rinzin Dorji is a former member of parliament.

He has a bachelor’s degree in commerce from Sherubtse College in Kanglung. Before joining politics, he was a Gup.

46-year-old Chandra Bdr. Gurung will contest from Lhamoi Dzingkha–Tashiding constituency in Dagana. Chandra worked as an auditor but resigned in 2018 to contest the parliamentary election.

He holds a Master’s of Environmental Management and Development from the Australian National University.

A former member of parliament, 40-year-old Pema Drukpa will contest from the Khamaed-Lunana constituency in Gasa. He has a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from St.Joseph College in India and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration from the University of Canberra in Australia. He has served as a Chemist at Army Welfare Project and as the Project Manager at Trans Bhutan Trail.

Harka Singh Tamang will represent the party from the Gelephu constituency in Sarpang. 62-year-old Harka Singh Tamang completed his Bachelor of Arts with Honors in Urban Geography from DAV College, Chandigarh in India.

He has served 34 years in civil service as Zonal Planning Officer, Under Secretary, Deputy Director, Joint Director of RSTA and executive secretary of Gelephu Thromde.  Before joining the party in 2018, he served as Zhemgang Dzongda.

49-year-old Sonam Wangchuk is the new PDP candidate from the Radhi-Sakteng constituency in Trashigang.

He has 26 years of work experience as a communications specialist and health expert. He holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Canberra.

37-year-old Phuntsho Dendup will contest from the Nubi-Tangsibji constituency in Trongsa. He has a Bachelor of Business Administration specialising in finance from the Gedu College of Business Studies.

Before joining PDP in 2018, he served as the branch manager of BDBL in Trongsa.

55-year-old Kamal Bahadur Gurung will contest from the Kilkorthang-Mendrelgang constituency in Tsirang. He holds a Master of Engineering in Electric Power System Management from the Asian Institute of Technology in Thailand.

He is a former member of parliament. He has 29 years of work experience as a computer engineer, executive engineer and senior project manager.

Novin Darlami will represent the party from the Sergithang-Tsirang Toed constituency in Tsirang. 37-year-old Novin Darlami is a former member of parliament.

Before joining politics in 2013, he worked as Business Strategist for The Bhutanese paper in 2012.

He has a Master of Business Administration specialising in marketing and human resources from Bangalore University in India.

46-year-old Kuenga is the PDP’s candidate from Nyisho-Saephu constituency in Wangdue Phodrang. He is a former member of Parliament.

Kuenga has a Bachelor of Arts in Dzongkha from Sherubtse College and a Post Graduate in Education from the Samtse College of Education. Before joining politics in 2013, he served as a teacher for over seven years.  

PDP has declared 20 candidates so far.
