The Laytshog Lopen of the Central Monastic Body presided over the consecration ceremony of a newly built Neykhang at Dechencholing in Thimphu today.

The temple houses a sacred boulder which is believed to have been used by the Local Deity Ap Genyen to sharpen his sword. It is also said that the place is a meeting spot for Ap Genyen and the Pangrizampa mermaid.

In the past, people who could not visit the Dechenphu Lhakhang would pay their respects to the sacred stone.

“It takes seven steps for Ap Genyen to reach this spot and Tshomen, his consort of Pangrizampa comes here for an excursion. In the past, people of Kabesa in Punakha district would come here to pay respects and solicit good fortune before this rock when they could not go to Dechenphu,” said Lam Kinley Tshering, the Dechencholing Lam.
