The Ta Dzong Royal Heritage Museum in Trongsa has opened a temporary exhibition platform for private art collectors and owners. The platform was opened coinciding with the Birth Anniversary of the Fourth Druk Gyalpo. According to officials, the platform will merge the artefacts of the general public with the existing museum items and provide more variety to visitors.

The Royal attires of the first hereditary King and Great Grand Queen Mother were on exhibition as part of the opening event at the Royal Heritage Museum. Visitors were also able to see many historical royal objects such as armaments, traditional containers and His Majesty The King’s inspirational Addresses.

The curator of the Royal Heritage Museum, Sangay Tashi, says such a temporary exhibition is introduced for the first time in the country to provide more variety to the visitors.

“People have numerous ancient artefacts but keeping them safe at home is a challenge. There are chances that such precious items might get spoiled. Hence, our aim is to preserve and maintain those objects and return them safely after exhibition or when it is time for the return.”

The museum designated five galleries for the exhibition. From ancient Bhutanese textiles to Thro and Zang or ancient bronze pots, the galleries have them all.

“Besides the nationals, even the outsiders will get an opportunity to witness and spread the news of such rich artefacts of our country to their friends in their homeland. Hence, I believe this will eventually boost the tourists’ arrival here. Moreover, our children could also learn what our forefathers inherited and spread the knowledge during their times,” said Nima Tsedon, a visitor.

“I feel very special and grateful that I have seen the Museum now because it is really a pleasure for me to see the old Ghos of the First and Second Kings of Bhutan. And, all these old things from the kings are really worth seeing,” added Partat, a Tourist from Austria.

The Temporary Exhibition will be held every year hereafter besides the displays of rare and precious artefacts of the Wangchuck Dynasty in the other Lhakhang of the Museum. The Museum dedicated to the monarchs was constructed in 2008.
