Volunteers with the Bhutan Red Cross Society in Sarpang will now be more equipped and skilled to provide first aid services in terms of emergencies. The organisation trained more than 250 volunteers in the district recently.

The volunteers received training on non-medical care such as first aid services in cases of accidents and disasters, responding to different kinds of emergencies such as snake bites, excessive bleeding and many more.

The training is going to come in handy during times of disasters as the district is prone to floods during monsoon.

“I think attending such training enhances ones knowledge. The training taught us how to help people to ensure their safety during emergencies and disasters,” said Thinley Dorji, a participant.

“During the one-day training, all of us were equipped with first-aid services. I will now be in a position to help during emergencies like a car accident. I am grateful for the training,” said Sangay Gembo, another participant.

“We were equipped with important skills in terms of emergencies. For instance, I can now help a person who suddenly chokes on food, someone who drowns while swimming or in cases of snakebites,” said Karma Sonam.

A similar training programme for the volunteers will be conducted in the rest of the districts.
