Her Majesty the Queen Mother Sangay Choden Wangchuck is in Lunana, Gasa as part of a High-Level Advocacy tour. The tour is to address public health and social issues faced by Lunaps and to spread awareness on measures to prevent the issues. Her Royal Highness Princess Eeuphelma Choden Wangchuck is accompanying Her Majesty. The tour which began yesterday will go on until Thursday.
Her Majesty the Queen Mother addressed the people of Lunana at the Thanza Extended Classroom today. Her Majesty’s address stressed the timely utilization of health services to improve the health and well-being of mothers and children, the importance of cervical cancer screening, prevention of Sexually Transmitted Diseases, HIV and AIDs, youth issues and domestic violence.
Her Majesty the Queen Mother also hosted a tokha for over 500 locals who attended the public gathering.
As part of the tour, a team of health workers including a surgeon and a gynaecologist provided general medical check-ups and cancer screening for the people of Lunana.
Patients with serious medical conditions requiring further assessments were referred to the National Referral Hospital.
The Health Ministry, the Education Ministry, RENEW, and UNFPA officials created awareness on communicable and non-communicable diseases, gender equality, Protection of Women and Children’s rights, prevention of all forms of violence, sexual and reproductive health, and maternal health care.
Tomorrow, Her Majesty the Queen Mother will grant an audience to students and teachers of all three primary schools of Lunana.
At the event, Her Majesty will award soelra to the schools and host a tokha for the students and 40 civil servants.
As per a news release from the Office of the Gyalyum Charitable Trust, as the UNFPA Ambassador to Bhutan for over 20 years, Her Majesty the Queen Mother Sangay Choden Wangchuck continues to advocate for public health and social issues in the country.
