The residents of Nubi Gewog in Trongsa are growing frustrated with the poor condition of the road between upper Sherabling and Ueling villages. Potholes are increasing and the drainage along the three-kilometre road is becoming worse. The road has been in bad condition for more than three years now.

With no major maintenance, most parts of the road are riddled with potholes. The blacktop has also worn off. The bumpy and bad condition of the road not only makes driving inconvenient but also damages the cars.

“Getting a house for rent is a problem in the core town area. So, I live here as the rent is affordable. But the road is very bad although it falls under the extended town area,” said Ratna Bhadhur Ghallay, Ueling resident.

“Besides our vehicles getting damaged, it is difficult when it rains. The road becomes slippery during rainy days as the blacktop has getting worn off. It is difficult especially when we reach sharp turns,” said Tenzin Norbu, another resident.

“I don’t think a lot of money is needed for the restoration. They can fill the potholes and clear the drains. The road not only benefits the town residents but also the villagers. Almost 70 per cent of the people of Nubi Gewog use this road,” said Tandin Penjor, a Karshong resident.

Every day, some 50 vehicles travel along the stretch. The villagers also use this road to transport their farm produce to the market in Trongsa town.

The Department of Roads Office in Trongsa repaired the road and blacktopped it in 2018 and handed it over to the district administration.

According to the District Chief Engineer, they don’t have the budget to blacktop the road for now but they are planning to carry out maintenance works on it soon.

Officials added that they will propose the road blacktopping in the 13th Five-Year Plan.
