The Education Ministry has recognized six government scholarship students for excelling in their fields of study. The students who have now graduated won gold medals for academic excellence from their respective universities. They received Tashi Khadhar from the Education Minister in appreciation of their achievements.

Dechen Lhamo Gyeltshen from Samtse graduated from the University of Reading in the UK with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology and Climate studies. She was named the Top student in the cohort for her academic achievement. She is currently preparing for civil service exams.

Likewise, the list also includes Chimi Wangmo and Tshering Dema who graduated in Medical Lab Technology and Medical Imaging Technology respectively from KS Hegde Medical Academy in Karnataka, India. Both of them are waiting for the civil service exams.

25-year-old Tshetrim Yangdan from Monggar is also one of the recipients.  She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of EL Paso in the US.

Jamyang Choden a student from Swami Vivekanand Subharti University in India completed her bachelor’s degree in Naturopathy and Yogi Science. She currently runs the Ziba Wellness and Yoga Studio at Gelephu.

And Kelzang Jigme is the lone male award recipient. He graduated from the University of El Paso, the USA with a Bachelor’s in mathematics. He says such recognition encourages students to do better.

The Education Ministry holds felicitation programmes every year to recognize and appreciate scholarship students who win gold medals in their universities.
