Phuentshogling town will soon have a new place for people to relax and spend quality time. The much-anticipated public park near the RIGSS institution is nearing its completion. With only a few minor finishing works left, the park is all set to open in a few weeks.
After nearly two and a half years, the works are almost complete. By the looks of it, the park will become the perfect place for the residents of Phuentshogling to unwind.
Unlike before, the new recreational park, spread over an acre will have an open-air theatre that can accommodate over 150 people.
The old pedestrian footbridge, which has received a lot of criticism, is cleverly connected to the open-air theatre with skywalk facilities. It is an eye-catching design that will finally put to rest the old debate about the pedestrian footbridge being useless and not necessary.
Likewise, the new facility will also have two cafés, a Mani Dungkhor, park structures, and a fountain. For now, all works are complete, except for a few finishing works on the fountain and the coffee house.
“For a place like Phuentshogling, such a facility is very much required. Unlike other parks, I would say the Thromde RIGSS Park is completely different. It is a whole new concept,” said Phuentshogling Thrompon Uttar Kumar Rai.
The Park will also have a lazy walk facility for elderly people.
“There are not many parks with lazy walk facilities in them. It is entirely a new concept. Such a facility will have a small park filled with various beautiful flowers,” said the Thrompon.
“It will also have footpaths with 3D effect paver blocks to make it look more beautiful. Likewise, the new lighting system will also be a whole new experience for all visitors.”
And despite not being fully ready yet, the new facility is already attracting visitors including tourists.
“Phuentshogling is developing well. With this new beautiful structure coming up, tourists will want to visit this place more. It will become a tourist spot for sure. It looks very exciting,” said Pratik Rai, from Sikkim, India.
“It seems that the park is not open for now. But it looks beautiful already. The open-air theatre will be very useful and I would suggest organising musical concerts. It will be like a music festival that will attract more visitors,” said Phuntshok Tshering Sherpa from Kalimpong.
More than Nu 25 M has been spent on the project so far. The construction of the park began in 2020 amid the pandemic.
The new park is expected to be inaugurated and opened to the public in the 3rd week of this month.
