Residents accuse BLDC of inconsistent services – Zhemgang

Residents of Zhemgang town are accusing the Bhutan Livestock Development Corporation outlet of inconsistent services. They say the outlet remains closed most of the time and barely serves its purpose. The outlet was opened in August last year for the farmers to market their livestock products and supply the products to schools and residents.

Some residents said the outlet which is under lock and key most days is just occupying a space at the vegetable market without serving the intended purpose.

It was closed when BBS visited last week.

Meanwhile, the woman who used to operate the outlet said she closed the shop for the last few months due to personal problems.

The residents refused to talk to BBS as they said the district officials asked them not to do.

According to the BLDC office in Thimphu, the woman was given a one-year contract to operate it. The term ended last month.

And the office didn’t renew the contract as the woman is said to have not paid Nu 200,000 to the office after selling the products. The office said it reminded the operator about the due.

“I am collecting the money just now. During the lockdown, I received the stocks from the BLDC which were supposed to be supplied to the schools. But I couldn’t do so because the lockdown delayed the school opening. Since they didn’t take the stocks, I had to sell them to hotels and couldn’t get the bills on time. Moreover, due to the price drop at the time, I couldn’t sell the eggs,” said Dawa Dema, BLDC Outlet Operator.

According to the BLDC office in Thimphu, the outlet was closed since June and the office started supplying livestock products directly from Thimphu to schools in Zhemgang.

In a month, the office supplies more than 750 kilograms of meat and 30 cartons of eggs to 13 schools in the district.
