The Education Minister, Thakur Singh Powdyel, celebrated the International Literacy Day at Lunana Community Primary School with the students, teachers and the community today.

“The reason why we are celebrating the International Literacy Day in Lunana is to highlight the importance of literacy, reading and writing particularly, as Gasa Dzongkhag has among the lower achievement in terms of enrollment,” said the minister.

Speaking to the gathering of about 200 people, Lyonpo Thakur Singh Powdyel,  stressed on the low school enrollment in Lunana and urged the parents to send their children to school. Lyonpo said it is important for everybody to be able to read and write. “It is important for the people even in the most remote part of our country to be able to read and write.”

Lyonpo commended instructors teaching in the remote extended class rooms. “They are doing an excellent job of bringing the light of learning to our community here for both men and women. I m delighted as an educationist. We have the light of learning actually burning in this place. I would like to wish all our parents, men and women, boys and girls a very happy International Literacy Day.”

There are 52 students studying in Lunana Community Primary School.
