Bhutan Broadcasting Service received about Nu 40 M worth of broadcast equipment from the Korean government. The broadcast equipment including FM radio transmitters and accessories for 14 stations were received through the Korea Radio Promotion Association.

The equipment for outside broadcast consists of cameras, cables and other accessories. It is essential as BBS prepares to go High Definition by early next year.

BBS also received radio transmitters and accessories that can help strengthen the radio reception.

“Our first project was on FM transmitter which will help us with our coverage. We do not have enough equipment. And then in the second phase, we have the equipment, especially for upcoming elections. Since we are in the process of upgrading our system from SD to HD, we do not have enough outside broadcasting equipment,” said Thinley Dorji, the HD Project Manager.

The television broadcast equipment is worth more than Nu 15 M and the radio transmitters are worth more than Nu 24 M. BBS and the association also signed two Memoranda of Understanding concerning the grant. While BBS has already started using the new outside broadcast television equipment, it has also completed 60 per cent of the work of installing the radio transmitters.
