The chief of Police, Brigadier Kipchu Namgyel, confirms the capture of two prisoners who were on the run. They were arrested from Haa after a tip-off from an informer who had sighted them in Haa yesterday.

The prisoners had escaped from Thimphu City Police detention center on Sunday.

Brigadier Kipchu Namgyel said the two detainees, who were serving as cooks, took advantage of it. “The kitchen is located inside the centre’s premise.  There are police guarding the premise only from outside.” He said the detainees were well-behaved when they were serving as cooks.  “Now we understand the detainees behaved well only to serve their own purpose,” said the Police Chief.

The Officer in-Charge of Haa, Captain Tshering Penjor, said, after the tip off, the search team found the two prisoners in Langeyang village. They were sleeping when they were caught.

One of the prisoners, Nawang Dorji, 23, from Yangtse gewog in Trashiyangtse was arrested from Phuentsholing in May this year as the main accused of a car racket. He was involved in selling foreign cars that are brought in Bhutan to the North Eastern states of India.

Pemba, 21, from Chungsekha village of Phangyul gewog in Wangduephodrang was arrested in May this year for burglary.
