For any business to prosper, packaging and labelling are essential tools to encourage potential buyers to buy the product. They not only grab the attention of the customers but also enhances the appearance of the product. A ten-day critical capacity development training to improve packaging and labelling is underway in Zhemgang. The training will end next week.

30 participants from Sarpang, Trongsa, Wangdue Phodrang and Zhemgang are undergoing the training. With the knowledge acquired, they are now looking forward to improving their products.

“We have been selling our Maykhu in a plastic bag or wrapped in a piece of paper. But from the knowledge and skills acquired throughout the training, we will make our product more presentable and attractive for the customers. We will improve our packaging and labelling, making it appealing to the customers,” said Chimi Wangmo, a participant from Wangdue Phodrang.

“After this training, I am looking forward to improving the overall look of our product. And with the good packaging and labelling, we will send it to far-flung places,” said Phul Maya Gurung, another participant from Sarpang.

“If there is no labelling on the product, we are taking away the luxury of allowing customers to know the product and give necessary information about the product. Good labelling can instantly grab a customer’s attention towards a product,” said Rinchen Tshering, a participant from Wangdue Phodrang.

Product labelling allows customers to know about the product by giving necessary messages including ingredients, instructions and uses among others. Similarly, good packaging beautifies the product to add to its visual appeal.

“We have a huge local production in our country but what our local producers lack is good packaging and labelling. And this takes away their access to a good market. But with training such as this, our local producers can enhance their capacity on good food packaging and labelling to not only attract customers in the country but abroad as well,” said Choni Dorji, Course Coordinator of Rural Development Training Centre in Zhemgang.

Training such as this is expected to meaningfully engage people to explore self-employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.
