Residents accuse gewog administration of constructing farm road at a different location in Tsholingkhar Gewog

Some six households of Drubchhugang chiwog at Tsholingkhar Gewog in Tsirang are not happy with the Gewog Administration for not constructing a farm road along the surveyed stretch. The residents say this has left them without a road. The residents are now requesting the Gewog administration to construct a new road at the earliest.

The initial survey was carried out some four years ago. But the hopes of the residents were shattered when the Gewog Administration constructed the road at a different location which didn’t benefit them.

“Beneficiaries along with a team from the gewog and district administrations have carried out the farm road survey along this stretch. But later the road was not constructed as per the survey. We are not happy with the decision,” said Tashi Lhamo, a resident.

“After the road survey, I grew maize but the gewog officials told me that the crop will be destroyed by the road construction works. I even left a few decimals of my land fallow expecting that the road construction would start,” said Sonam Tshering, another resident.

Moreover, the road constructed from the other location has not benefited the residents in that area as intended either. Even the construction works are incomplete.

“The road construction work has destroyed my farmland and fruit trees. But I couldn’t do anything,” said Norzin Drukpa, a resident.

Meanwhile, according to the Tsholingkhar Gewog Administration, the farm road construction could not be executed along the surveyed stretch since some landowners had reservations.

“It was there in the activity but three landowners couldn’t sign the documents. So, because of that, we couldn’t construct the road. But if they give us signatures, we will start the road construction works soon,” said Passang Tamang, the Tsholingkhar Gup.

For now, all that the six households can do is hope for a road along their desired location to make their lives easier and more comfortable.
