The DeSuups are once again at work and this time it’s in the tourism sector. To improve tourist attractions in the country, the DeSuups will work to develop and refurbish various tourist facilities and sites across the country. The Tourism Council of Bhutan in collaboration with the DeSuung Office launched the DeSuung Takshel Programme yesterday.

As the first task under the programme, more than a hundred DeSuups will work to develop the Taktshang trail in Paro. The DeSuups will revamp the trail that starts from the Taktshang base via Bumdrak to the Sangachhoekhor Monastery.

They will also clean up the route and set up waste management facilities. All of this is expected to be completed within a month and a half.

After this, the DeSuups will move onto another tourist site in another district which is yet to be decided.

“The fare for any foreigner visiting Bhutan has been increased and we plan to offer services that are expected of the fees,” said TCB’s Chief Tourism Officer, Rinzin Jamtsho.

Tandin Dorji from the DeSuung Head Office said the DeSuung Takshel Programme aims to develop and enhance the tourism sector and tourist destination sites and trails.

As part of the programme today, over 300 DeSuups collected wastes from the Taktsang base to Bondey town.

Currently, there are more than 30,000 DeSuups in the country.
