Pema Khandu Wangchuk refutes accusation by Mister National Universe Organisation

Refuting the allegations against him, Pema Khandu Wangchuk says the Mister National Universe Organization stripped him of the Mister National World title not because of his photoshoot but on a personal grudge. The organisation released a statement yesterday stripping him of the title.

The Mister National Universe Organization announced its dissociation from Pema Khandu Wangchuk for an indecent photoshoot he did in Bangkok recently. His title was supposed to run until the next pageant crowning.

“I chatted with him on Facebook Messenger many times and gave him advance notice that this was going to happen. He had plenty of time to apologize and to work this out quietly, but he chose not to,” the organiser responded while asked why they released a statement on social media about the incident.

Talking to BBS, Pema Khandu Wangchuk claimed that he did not sign any contract with the organizer and therefore looked for opportunities while in Bangkok. The organisers, however, said in a written statement that a verbal agreement was made where a contestant will not be allowed to involve in indecent photoshoots. The organisers also said the contestants were briefed at least twice on what sort of modelling projects they are supposed to do.

But Pema said he did not do any ‘autoerotic’ photoshoots as accused by the organisers.

Pema Khandu Wangchuk says the Mr National Universe competition was not properly organized from the very beginning. According to him, the organisers even allowed contestants from the local area with dubious nationality to compete with them. He said the competition was not carried out fairly. He accused the competition to be all about money where the organizer chose a winner who could bring them more sponsorship.

“When people raised questions about the result of the winner, the organizer instructed me to make a video expressing my satisfaction with winning the first runner-up title,” he said. But he only acknowledged his supporters. This, he said, breached the already sour relationship he had with the organisers.

According to him, the organisers stripping him of the title because of his photoshoot doesn’t make sense. He said the organisers who are indignant about the photoshoots are the same who accepted contestants with a history of having accounts on adult sites and jobs as male strippers.

He also said he has huge respect for his country’s values and therefore would not engage in any such activities as accused by the organisers.

Meanwhile, the organisers shared their disappointment with how this turned out but assured its support to working with future Mister National Universe Bhutan candidates.
