The wait is finally over for the residents of Phaling Throm in Lhuentse. The much-awaited double-lane road is now blacktopped. It is part of the urban road and infrastructure development works.

The 2.5-kilometre road stretches from Nakeythang to the BPC office. Except for the construction of footpaths and installation of street lights, the contractor has completed constructing gates, drains, and walls.

The project has not been handed over to the district administration yet. But the commuters are already enjoying a dust-free smooth ride.

“Before the completion of the blacktopping works, the shops were not able to maintain cleanliness due to dust from the road. But after the blacktopping works, it has been easier for people to maintain cleanliness and hygiene,” said Samten Jangchub Singye, Phaling Throm Thuemi.

“Earlier, the road used to be too narrow. And due to that, it was risky for students to go to school. But with the completion of the blacktopping work, it is safer and more comfortable for students,” said Kezang Tsheten Sherab, a student of Lhuentse HSS.

“Before the completion of the blacktopping works, there was a lot of dust and traffic was so heavy with the rough road and dust all over the road. But now I feel life’s a little more comfortable after the blacktopping works,” said Jigme Namgyel Phuntsho, another student.

The construction and blacktopping of the double-lane road started in 2019. It was supposed to complete last year. But the pandemic delayed the progress.

The district administration has allocated Nu 90 M for the urban road and infrastructure development project. It is scheduled to complete by December this year.

Once complete, it will benefit about 2,000 people residing in Phaling Throm in Lhuentse.
