The Samtse District Court last month sentenced a man to three years in prison. The court found him guilty of molesting and battering a 14-year-old girl. He was also ordered to compensate the girl. The police arrested him in November last year after the sister of the girl reported the crime.

The incident happened last year when the convict, Mon Bdr Limboo, returned home drunk. The girl along with her sister and another friend was studying in the convict’s house. According to the judgment, the convict touched the girl inappropriately and even tried to force himself on her. He was also found to have slapped the girl when she ran away from him.

Medical reports from Samtse hospital confirmed that the girl’s face where he hit her was swollen. She also sustained injuries to her thumb and shoulder when the convict tried to pin her down on the bed. The judgment stated that statements given by the defendant, the girl, and other witnesses proved that he committed the crime.

The Court sentenced him to three years in prison for child molestation and three months for child battery. However, as per the judgment, he could serve the prison term concurrently as he does not have any criminal records. The man was also ordered to pay compensation of more than Nu 11,000 to the girl within ten days from the day of the judgment.

As per sources, the man has appealed to the High Court recently.
