TikTok is gaining popularity among the youth in the country today. The App provides a platform to showcase their talents, and some TikTokers even made it to the big screen. It is considered a stepping stone for aspiring actors. The App also provides a platform for people to come together to pursue a collective dream. This is how a group of Bhutanese on TikTok met to give back to society. They call themselves, ‘Bhutanese TikTokers’.

Karma Kuenzang Dorji from Trashi Yangtse formed the group in April this year. Since then, the members collected waste about ten times in Paro and Thimphu.

The group collected about 15 truckloads of waste last month alone.

From waste management to repairing houses of senior citizens and helping economically disadvantaged families, the group tries to contribute in every small way.

“We used to assist those who are in need. We collect money and pay their rents. Moreover, for some elderly people, we help them with their groceries,” said the founder.

The members say it is better to make themselves useful to society in their own ways than to stay at home.

“Yellow June commemorates the Birthday of Her Majesty The Gyaltsuen. We collected waste from Dechenphu Lhakhang till Taba,” said Thinley Gyeltshen, a member of the Bhutanese TikTokers.

“I am a person living with disabilities. I joined the group to contribute in a small way,” said Tandin Dorji, also a member.

However, the group has exhausted its resources and is now in need of funds. But this limitation is not holding them back. The close to 50-member group plans to make Punakha, Wangdue Phodrang, Trongsa and Bumthang a little cleaner than before.
