Not all children are wasting their time on social media. Many are creating engaging content and using different platforms to express themselves. From sharing fun facts to giving tours of the places he visits, a nine-year-old boy in Monggar has made vlogging or video blogging his passion. And this has earned thousands of followers on Facebook within a year.

Kuenga Rinchen Dradrol from Bidung in Trashigang started vlogging last year. He is currently studying in class four at Gyalpozhing Higher Secondary School in Monggar. Vlogging is what keeps him busy besides his school activities. His recent video of the 7th Royal Bhutan Flower Exhibition tour in Gyalpoizhing was the most shared and watched of all his videos.

“Since this COVID 19 pandemic struck, people have been feeling bored inside, they don’t learn anything. Sometimes they don’t do anything and just watch television. So, I just wanted to entertain them and wanted them to learn new things during the pandemic,” said Kuenga Rinchen Dradrol.

“It started way back in the first lockdown. So that time we had nothing much to do at home. And he was watching videos and talking so we just recorded and started posting. So, whenever he has something to say, singing a rap or a song, we used to just record and directly post it on his Facebook page,” said Rinchen Wangdi, Dradrol’s father.

To improve his content, Dradrol fosters his inquisitiveness by reading books and watching videos of other vloggers.

“When I was five or six years old, I was a huge fan of some of the vloggers. They were vloggers and gamers at the same time. They were called the Crew and they live in Canada. I wanted to vlog and requested my father if I could do it one day. So, here I am now,” said Dradrol.

“When he has access to the Facebook pages and all, he watches videos he thinks he is interested in. He has several Facebook pages he follows. From there also he picks up and otherwise on YouTube he has also several channels he follows. In a way, he is picking up from here and there,” added the father.

Through his informative videos shared on his Facebook page, he has earned followers not just within his school but across the country. He has more than 15,000 followers on his Facebook Page named “Dradrol’s Page”.

“As a student, he is very obedient, active and does his activities actively in the class. As a mathematics teacher, I have to prepare extended learning activities separately for him. If we give one question, he would explore that and come up with many methods to solve that mathematical question,” said Sonam Dorji, Dradrol’s teacher.

Dradrol dreams of becoming a scientist in the future. But for now, he wants to continue creating interesting content and hone his skills of telling stories through his newfound hobby.
