The Supreme Court finally brings down the curtain on the case of the commissioning of criminal conspiracy, mutiny, abetting mutiny and other criminal offences. The Supreme Court upheld the High Court’s judgment and dismissed Khandu Wangmo’s appeal on Thursday. Khandu Wangmo was sentenced to a concurrent prison term of nine years. She appealed to the Court in December, last year.

The Supreme Court convicted 42-year-old Khandu Wangmo of abetting mutiny, criminal misappropriation of property, larceny by deception, illegal possession of a firearm and impersonation of uniformed personnel.

She also received an additional prison term of 18 months for the use of an unauthorized vehicle, illegal procurement of confidential documents and harassment. However, she can pay in lieu of the 18 months of prison term.

The Supreme Court also sentenced her to 21 years in prison for sedition in January.  She has to serve a prison term of 30 years in total.

Khandu Wangmo colluded with former RBG Commandant Brigadier Thinley Tobgay, former Supreme Court Justice Kuenley Tshering and former Pema Gatshel Drangpoen Yeshi Dorji to overthrow the army’s Chief Operations Officer. She was arrested in July 2020.
