After many controversies and delays, the construction of Nangar-Ura highway is back on track. The work was delayed for two years. But now the work is in full swing with about 61 percent of the construction  complete. The new road to Ura from Bumthang will cut short 31 kilometres compared to the present Ura-Bumthang.

A stretch from Nangar till the Gyeptong Zam, which comes to 32 kilometre, is complete. The blacktopping and drainage system are also complete. The other half of the road is being constructed from Ura side.

The private construction company, Rigsar, is taking care of the project. The Project Engineer, Choba Dhendup, said they will start black topping the road in about two months. “We are on track and everything will be completed on time.”

The work resumed from February 2011. The Project Engineer from the Department of Road, Jambay Wangchuk, said the new road will reduce travel time for the people. He also said it will be economical for the people as shorter distance means less fuel consumption and fares.

The new road will cater to commuters travelling to Ura, Monggar, Lhuentse, Trashigang Trashiyangtse and Samdrup Jongkhar. The road is scheduled to complete on June next year.  The project is funded by the government.
