Swimmers in Dagana Dzongkhag will no longer have to swim in streams and rivers, and fear being washed away by the rivers. This is because, for the first time, a private individual is constructing a swimming pool near Dagana Dzong. Except for Lhamoizhingkha Dungkhag, the rest of the places do not have such facilities.

The swimming pool is located around two kilometres away from the Dagana Dzong. For now, about 80 per cent of the construction works are completed.

According to some of the youth in Dagana, the swimming pool will benefit them as they can stay physically fit.

“We don’t have a swimming pool here, unlike other districts. But we are excited about the newly constructed facility,” said Sangay Dorji, a student.

“Until now, we have been swimming in the Dagachhu. However, we are happy as a swimming pool facility is being constructed here,” said Dechen Wangdi, another student.

“When we have such facility in our area, we don’t have to travel to other areas to avail ourselves of such facilities,” said Sonam Tobgay.

The swimming pool is being constructed on 84-decimal land. According to the owner, there are plans to construct restrooms, a bathing facility and guest rooms.

“After resigning from the local government, I travelled to Paro. And I got the concept from there. For now, I have to invest but later I can earn from it every day. That’s why I am focusing on this business,” said Lhakpa, the owner.

Once complete, children have to pay Nu 150 per hour. While an adult will have to pay Nu 200.

The construction is costing over Nu 1.5 M and the facility is expected to be ready by next month.
