Soon, people of Gagar-Karshong chiwog of Nubi Gewog in Trongsa will no longer have to travel via Trongsa town to reach their Gewog office at Bemji. This is because a ring road connecting the chiwog directly with the Gewog office is scheduled to complete in June. Almost 65 per cent of the works have been completed so far. The construction of the six-kilometre ring road began in February 2020.
Currently, the residents of Gagar, Karshong, Jongthang and Mangdephu have to travel 65 kilometres to avail themselves of services from the gewog office. But there is also an alternate route, an old footpath, to reach the gewog office. However, the residents have to walk for almost two hours.
“We are very happy that the route to the Gewog office is shorter now. Otherwise, we have to take the long route from below the Gagar villages to reach the Gewog office or BHU,” said Nagtshamo.
“At present, we walk on using the suspension bridge between Bemji and Karshong villages to reach the gewog office. However, we have to travel via Trongsa only if we have to transport goods,” said Ugyen Lhendup.
“The route is also convenient for us from the new road. And also, everyone says that the distance is shorter from there,” said Jurmi.
According to district engineer sector, laying of granular sub-base on about one kilometre stretch and construction of drain and walls in certain portion along the ring road are yet to be complete.
And the construction of a 120 feet long bailey bridge that connects the ring road at Thrisipang is ongoing. It is expected to be complete within a few months. Once complete, the ring road will benefit more than a hundred households of Gagar-Karshong chiwog.
