Four men in Haa convicted of burglary by the District Court have appealed to the High court. They were sentenced last month to prison terms ranging from one to three years. They had stolen a safe from the house of a Police officer last year. Two of the convicts can however pay in lieu of their prison term while the other two were sentenced to non-compoundable prison terms.
Two offenders have been ordered to pay the victim compensations amounting to over Nu 5 M for damages and missing valuables.
One of the convicts who had received a sum of Nu 300,000 from others for his help has been ordered to hand over the money to the government.
Meanwhile, a car bought after selling the valuables and cash of Nu 36,000 was also seized from one of the culprits.
