Coinciding with the birthday of His Royal Highness Gyalsey Jigme Namgyel Wangchuck, the Tourism Council of Bhutan in partnership with READ Bhutan launched a children’s story on social media today. The story titled “Agay Phurba and the Dancing Cranes” is written by a group of students based on their conversation with Agay Phurba, a resident of Bumdeling valley which is a winter home to the endangered Black-necked cranes. In the story, Agay Phurba who has been taking care of the cranes’ roosting ground for about 40 years talks about the challenges and threats facing the crane habitats because of developmental activities and human encroachment.
