After several deadline extensions, the business community of the Doksum area moved to the new township area today. But residents say the area lacks a few basic amenities. The developmental works at the new town started in 2013. And the business community was supposed to move there by 2016. But after failing to complete their constructions, the residents requested for deadline extension several times.

The business community was supposed to move to the new town by end of last year. However, about two weeks was given for preparation. It was the seventh time that the business community received a deadline extension regarding their relocation.

According to the residents, the old Doksum town was established in 1967. Most of the residents started transporting their belongings a few weeks ago.

Some have lived in a rented house, some in temporary sheds and some in nearby areas like Wangringmo. And with the construction works still incomplete, they say they will have to continue like this for some time.

However, people said the new town area lacks basic facilities such as streetlights, parking areas and blacktopped road.

“The drinking water is supplied from Buyang but the water is not clean. Moreover, there is no parking area and the road is not blacktopped in the new town. So, we are facing difficulty while travelling,” said Ugyen Dorji, a businessman.

“If there is no taxi parking, bus parking and vegetable shed in the new town,” said Karma Lhamo, Doksum business representative.

According to the Trashi Yangtse Dzongda, the installation of streetlights and construction of parking areas will be carried out in the 2022-2023 financial year.

The vegetable shed will be also constructed in the next financial year.

Two kilometres of the stretch was blacktopped but the remaining one kilometre will be completed in the next phase.

Out of 40 plot owners, 11 have completed their construction while six buildings are still under construction. The rest are yet to start.
