Ugyen Auto in Phuentshogling is accused of evading Green Tax worth Nu 15 M while procuring 75 dumper trucks. The trucks were procured between 2018 and 2020. The Anti-Corruption Commission unearthed the alleged evasion last year. The Office of the Attorney General will register a case against the trader next week.

The investigation was initiated after the ACC received an anonymous complaint against the trader last year. The investigation found out that Ugyen Auto imported 49 dumper trucks from 2018 to 2019 and 26 trucks between 2019 and 2020. Although the import of dumper trucks like any other vehicle, is liable for 10 per cent Green Tax as per the Customs Act, the company had not paid the green tax.

As per Customs Act, a person will have to pay a fine of 50 per cent of the value of the goods evaded in addition to the amount of the custom’s duty.

The company, therefore, is also liable for fines and penalties amounting to Nu 75 M.

According to sources, the company paid Nu 15 M for the evasion when the ACC was investigating the case. The ACC forwarded the case to the OAG in November last year.
