Meditation programme- dealing with exam stress

Experts say it is normal to feel a bit worried about exams. Exam stress can cause one to feel anxious or depressed. And this might affect your sleeping and eating habits. But there are many ways to deal with exam stress. And meditation is one of them. This is exactly what all schools in Sarpang will start as they launch a meditation programme.

Some students will be sitting for their board exams next month. And for class XII students, it is a turning point in their lives. And taking time out to de-stress is important. Experts say guided meditations go a long way to calm anxious nerves, relieve stress and also increase focus.

The Gelephu Youth Center is taking meditation classes to schools this month. It is being done in collaboration with the Traditional Medicine Unit of Gelephu Hospital.

“We would like to impart some skills as to how they can cope up before the exam, during the exam and after the exam. We would also like them to take back these skills and practice throughout their lives,” said Chandra Bdr. Subba, the Manager of the  Youth Center.

Such a programme will reach all schools in Sarpang when they reopen this year.

“To minimize their stress and to cope up during such events, this mediation is quite useful since they may not be able to spare their time for physical exercise,” said Tshering Penjor, a Dungtsho from Gelephu Hospital.

And that is a much-needed intervention at the right time.
