People residing in Dagana town will get to enjoy a smooth ride soon. This is because the Dzongkhag engineering sector is working on blacktopping the three kilometres stretch that has not been maintained for about five years. Riddled with potholes, it has been a struggle for the commuters travelling through the bumpy stretch.

Commuters said the bad road condition has given them a lot of inconveniences.

“The road is filled with potholes. And as a result, it’s very inconvenient to drive. But with road repairing works now started, we are happy,” said Yeshi Lhendup, a taxi driver.

“The bad road condition only affects our vehicle but also the school going children during the rainy season. And during the winter season, the road becomes so dusty to ply on,” said Yeshi Dema, a shopkeeper.

“As the road improvement works have started, we are happy because it will benefit the commuters, shopkeepers and students,” said Gyem Lham, a commuter.

Currently, a private construction company is working on a drainage system before carrying out the blacktopping works.

“Some place we have very marshy area. For that we are proposing for rigid pavement because due to this marshy area especially in this Daga Dzong area, we have so many spaces. When we see it looks dry but when we go inside the it’s very marshy. That’s why we have proposed for concrete drain and rigid pavement,” said Jamyang Dorji, the chief engineer Dagana.

The blacktopping works worth Nu 10 M are expected to complete by mid of July next year.
