Karma Feeds has decided to give monetary compensation to poultry farmers affected by the recent incident. Thousands of birds died from supposedly contaminated feeds. The monetary compensation comes to about Nu 26 M. The company also replaced the feeds for free.

The feed samples have been sent to laboratories in Thailand and India. The results will be out in a couple of weeks.

“We decided to give monetary compensation and will be done in respective dzongkhags in collaboration with the Department of Livestock within 15 days. And the karma feeds is ready to start with the disbursement. However, disbursement of compensation will be done in consultation with the Department of Livestock,” said Chencho Wangyal, the Director of Karma Feeds.

The recent incident affected more than 500 poultry farmers across the country.

“Now the total loss incurred by the recent incident, it’s around 48 million and if I break up, 26.5 million is in monetary compensation that’s going to happen soon and 21.4 million in feed replacement which is about 578 metric tons of feeds that has been dispatched throughout the country,” said Chencho Wangyal, Director, Karma Feeds.

He also said Karma Feeds is a responsible manufacturing feed company. “So as solidarity and a courtesy call to farmers, we decided to compensate at the earliest possible because we can feel the frustrations and the sentiments of the farmers,” he added.

The Department of Livestock’s recent circumstantial evidence showed that some 300,000 birds were affected and more than 50,000 birds had died since last month. The supposedly contaminated feeds were supplied towards the end of November.
