From earthen pots to handcrafts items and yak and bamboo products to local farm produces – everything is in one place. Named ‘Brand Trongsa’, the dzongkhag now has a sales outlet that sells authentic local products. Supported by the dzongkhag administration, a private individual runs the outlet. It was launched yesterday.

In the past, after travelling for at least two hours from his home, 70-year-old Gyeltshen from Thangyuel would struggle to find customers in the town for his dairy and bamboo products. But today, he can sell everything at the sales outlet.

“It took days to sell anything before but now we could sell within no time and return home immediately. So this is an encouraging initiative and it inspires us to work harder,” he said.

Like him, other farmers won’t have to struggle anymore to sell their products. They can bring their products to the sales outlet any time.

According to Trongsa Dzongda, Phub Rinzin, the dzongkhag is prioritising diversifying dairy and agricultural products in the 2021 – 2022 financial year.

“We have allocated maximum budgets for this purpose,” he said.

The Deputy Chief Agriculture Officer, Karma Wangchuk, said products in the outlet will be of better quality and will also fetch a better price.

“After farmers sell their products here, the sales outlet will grade and package the products,” he added.

The dzongkhag agriculture sector helps the entrepreneur in grading, segregating, and packaging the products.

The district plans to expand it later and also open a similar outlet at Tangsibji Gewog in the future.

Passang, Trongsa
