The road between Baleygang in Gozhi Gewog and Nyindukha in Kana Gewog of Dagana is in dire need of maintenance. Riddled with potholes and loose gravel, people living in the region fear that the narrow road will be the cause of an accident anytime.

The 21-kilometre road between the two gewogs of Gozhi and Kana along the Dagapala-Dagana dzong highway was blacktopped more than a decade ago. However, the road did not see major maintenance ever since.

“We encounter numerous challenges due to the poor road conditions. When the road was in decent shape, we take our vehicles for maintenance only once a month. However, we now need to have our vehicles serviced more than twice a month,” said Tshering Dorji, in Dagana.

They also claim that the narrow road is becoming dangerous with an increase in traffic.

However, people can now look forward to having a smooth road again. According to the Department of Roads in Tsendagang, the stretch will be maintained soon. The work is set to begin by the end of this month. The maintenance work is expected to complete by October next year and is estimated to cost about Nu 42 M.

But there is no plan to widen the road as of now.
