A forest fire that raged on for the past five days in Athang Gewog of Wangdue Phodrang was finally contained today. More than 1,600 acres of forests were lost to the fire.

Rough terrain and windy weather made it difficult for the firefighters to control the forest fire. There were no reports of casualties. Forest officials suspect the fire to have started from the illegal harvesting of hornets.
