If the public debate of the Samdrup Jongkhar Thrompon election is any indication, both Thrompon candidates are determined to solve the long-standing water issue in the thromde. Among many issues in the thromde, the candidates prioritised the water issue during the debate yesterday.

Thrompon candidate Thinley Namgay picked on the water scarcity in the town. According to him, solving this issue at the earliest will be his priority.

“The construction of distribution network channel to supply water is going on. I will give full support to it and work hard to connect and supply water round the clock to all the residents within five years,” he said.

The other candidate is Ugyen Wangchuk. He also commits to solving the current water problem in the town.

“Currently, water is supplied from Pinchhina but with development and increase in population there is a water problem; it is in distribution network channel. So I will work hard to ensure that every household in the town is connected with reliable drinking water,” he said.

The pledges have gone down well with the voters.

“The former Thrompon had already made a good plan for it. The current Thrompon candidates are also pledging to solve the water problem here. We will be very grateful if they really solve it. We are expecting better from them,” a voter said.

Apart from solving the water problem, both the candidates pledged to construct good roads, drainage and make Samdrup Jongkhar town a safe and livable city. They also committed to promoting tourism in the town.

Meanwhile, the common forum of Samdrup Jongkhar thromde election is on 14th December.
